The Bunny-Gospel?

Monday, March 24th, 2008

My good friend Micah has hit upon a very important and scary point today. The importance of not losing the gospel, and the scary fact that we have begun some sort of a comfortable syncritism between the gospel and the bunny… I encourage you to take a look, it was a good read for me…

You can read it here.

New Sins…?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Did you know that we have new sins? Apparently, we really haven’t thought of everything…

Bishop Gianfranco Girotti, head of the Apostolic Penitentiary, has announced the NEW, so called, “7 deadly sins” and had this to say about them…

He said that priests must take account of “new sins which have appeared on the horizon of humanity as a corollary of the unstoppable process of globalisation”. Whereas sin in the past was thought of as being an individual matter, it now had “social resonance”.

“You offend God not only by stealing, blaspheming or coveting your neighbor’s wife, but also by ruining the environment, carrying out morally debatable scientific experiments, or allowing genetic manipulations which alter DNA or compromise embryos,” he said.

I guess they’re on the same page with the Southern Baptist Environment & Climate Initiative…I probably should turn off my computer… :)

But, seriously have we really figured out a new way to sin?

Is God not convicting us in the same manner that He did in the beginning?

I mean, he gave us the Ten Commandments as a guide. Is that not enough anymore? And, what about His Spirit? Where is He in our lives? Shouldn’t we be entrusting our personal convictions to Him and the Word?

Apparently our sins have gone from a personal matter to “now” a social matter…

Any thoughts?

Thank you Jesus for dying for my sins…ALL of them…the OLD ones and the NEW ones…

Truth?

What is Truth?

Caesar asked this question to Jesus before he had Him crucified.

I’m one of those people that get caught up on a simple phrase and try to examine it and pick it apart until I think I understand it. Maybe a little simple minded… regardless I have had this question on my mind all day.

What is Truth? HMMMMM

Do we really know?

The American Heritage Dictionary defines it like this…

truth

1. Conformity to fact or actuality.
2. A statement proven to be or accepted as true.

1. Reality; actuality.
2. often Truth That which is considered to be the supreme reality and to have the ultimate meaning and value of existence.

Think about this for a minute…

As I was reading this, the first definition is what stuck out most to me.

Conformity to fact…

Conformity? Doesn’t that mean that when we find truth that we are to become like it? And so, if we don’t act like it, does that mean that we don’t know the truth? This is scary to me. We speak of this truth and even believe it to be fact we even teach it to others, but are we conforming to the fact of this truth?

Quote…

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

I ran across this quote today and it really made me think…I thought i would share it.

Often we miss the undeniable work of God because we give up too soon.

I think sometimes we pray for His will or direction in something that we believe is right, and when it is not handed to us immediately we just assume that it is not His will. It sometimes is hard to remember that we are in His Will and NOT Him in ours. Therefore, it is in God’s timing and not ours…

Sick….of the flu!!!

Please pray for my son Aaron today. He has had the flu all week and is feeling miserable. His mother has had to take the week off of daytime ministry to be with him and take him to Dr. Appointments and the such. But today I am home from work to try to take care of him and get him to eat and regain his strength. Hopefully he will be back to his silly self as in the picture, soon…

Where is our Worship?

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, but I have been out of town the last couple of weeks on business. And I’m sure you all have missed this terribly. :)

As I was listening to my Interim Pastor Paul this morning he made a point that really stuck with me today.
He was teaching from John 9 about Jesus healing the blind man. Verse 16 is what caught my attention.

16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man Jesus is not from God, for he is working on the Sabbath.” Others said, “But how could an ordinary sinner do such miraculous signs?” So there was a deep division of opinion among them.

What the Pharisees are really saying is that this is the day that we are to worship God, and therefore, cannot be doing anything else that may hinder us from that. Because that may distract us from Him.

Still others were saying that if this is just a regular Joe, how could he do these things?  And why in the world would he do it on “The Sabbath?”

Thank goodness this is not the way we respond or think today…right?

I certainly hope that we are not “saving” our time for God for Sunday, Jesus certainly didn’t. If this was the case, how would others have the opportunity to know Christ? I am a firm believer that you can tell others all day long about Jesus, but if they can’t see Him in us, they would not see what He has to offer. We must look different than what the world has to offer. Or why would they, or Us for that matter, even want that. If we saved our Worship for Church, I wonder what we look like at work, home, school, or at the grocery store? Probably not the same way we look at church, huh?

Do we Love Jesus because someone told us about Him? Or because we saw Him in someone else?

Was it at Church?

Is the Sabbath your day of Worship? Or is it a day of relaxation and reflection?

Change?

change-cartoon.jpg

As I am listening to all these politicians promote change in the world, I wonder what change they are talking about. Of course, they never really tell us what that change is(which is, of course, customary with politicians).

Is this change something that we need because we are not happy with the way things are unfolding around us?

What is it that we are searching for?

Isn’t it enough to know that God is in control?

Why is it that we would yearn for this change, but when it comes to change in the church we are so reluctant?

Are we open to change in the church? Or is everything just fine the way it is?

I wonder if we are pleasing God the way we are handling ourselves in His midst…Are we advancing His word, the way that it is now?

These are just some random thought provoking questions I have…

Wasted Life?

Friday, January 25th, 2008

You wake up in the morning for work. Your wife is still sleeping so you be quiet as not to wake her. You quietly hop in the shower. Brush your teeth. Shave. Get your son dressed and ready for school. Eat a little breakfast. And then off to take your son to school, and off to work. But after you drop your child off at school you get into an automobile accident and you are killed instantly.

I know this sounds like a gruesome story of sorts and are probably thinking what kind of twisted mind does this guy have. But the reality of it is, that this sort of thing happens all the time. We see it on the news, we read it in our newspapers, online. We may have even had to experience it ourselves. We just plainly don’t know when our time is.

I unfortunately think of this quite frequently. I think about how my family is going to be supported financially when I am gone. I wonder how my son would grow up without a father (And I know how many do). And then I sometimes wonder if me dying would even matter to some. Or if my mark, meant anything to anyone.

This is the point to my post…

Do you ever wonder what the world would be like without you? Have you made the mark on it that God has appointed you to do? God tells us to be a vessel for him so that others would come to know him. Is that what we are really thinking as we wake up everyday and head off to work?

I am far off the mark in which God has instructed us to be at. It all boils down to Love… Are we loving people the way that we should? And I don’t mean donating a small portion of our time to the food kitchen or helping with summer VBS. Although those are great things and I believe those are major tools in building the Kingdom. I’m talking about taking the time to listen, learn, laugh, explore. Taking the time to visit with your children and engulf yourself into their dreams and ideas. Taking the time to listen to your spouse and thoroughly understand what kind of emotion that instance may bring her. Really feel. Listening to a friend or co-workers struggle with life and not just blowing him off. This is the kind of thing I think Jesus was trying to tell us. We can just glide through life and miss so much and never experience the beauty of the things and people that God has placed around us.

This is one of my greatest fears. That my placement on earth by my Father would be wasted, of sorts. And not used for it’s purpose of benefiting and growing His Kingdom.
